The 2018 Blue Flag awards have just been released. If you don’t already know, the Blue Flag award is given out by the Foundation for Environmental Education to the best coastal areas, marinas and beaches which have demonstrated a high standard of water quality, safety and environmental protection and management.

Last year, three beaches were given this coveted award giving Calabria a total of seven Blue Flag beaches.

This year, Calabria was awarded two more Blue Flag awards. Calabria now proudly has nine Blue Flag Beaches, and we are certain there will be more in the future!

But, for now, here is a look at this year’s award recipients.

Blue Flag 2018

Tortora – La Pineta/Fiume Noce

Located in the province of Cosenza, Tortora is known for its hilly landscape thanks to its vicinity to Pollino National Park. This beach is very similar to its neighboring beaches, like Paria a Mare and Belvedere Marittimo. It has beautiful sparkling water and a beach made up of white sand and small pebbles.

Sellia Marina – Località Ruggero/San Vincenzo-Sena/Jonio-Rivachiara

Sellia Marina is located in the province of Catanzaro on the Ionian coast. It has an expansive white sandy beach which is kissed by the crystal clear sea waters. There is also a wide boardwalk that allows you to take a walk along the seaside and admire the wonderful coastline.

There is no shortage of beautiful coastlines and beaches in Calabria. If you are visiting Italy, especially in the summer months, you should really consider including Calabria in your itinerary. We can help you plan a custom vacation and/or private tour.
