Earlier this month the Foundation for Environmental Education released there 2017 Blue Flag award recipients. This Blue Flag award are given to the best of the beast coastal areas, marinas and beaches who have shown a high standard of water quality, safety and environmental protection and management.
A couple years ago, we shared info on the Blue Flag beaches you can find in Calabria. Well, since then, three more beaches in Calabria were given this coveted award, giving Calabria a total of seven Blue Flag beaches.
Let’s take a look at the newest additions to the Blue Flag beaches in Calabria:
Praia a mare – Camping Internazionale/Punta Fiuzzi
Located in the province of Cosenza, Praia a Mare is best known for the small rocky outcrop known as Isola di Dino and the beautiful sixteenth-century tower, Tower Fiuzzi. However, Praia a Mare is also home to a beautiful white sandy coastline that leads you into the beautiful calm and sparkling water. The beach offers lots of different services and activities such as watersports, restaurants, bars and ice cream shops.
Roseto Capo Spulico – Lungomare
Roseo Capo Spulico, also located in the province of Cosenza, isn’t too far from another Blue Flag Beach in Trebisacce. The coastline of Roseto Capo Spulico is more rugged compared to that of Praia a Mare. The beach is made up of pebbles and gravel which continue into the crystal-clear sea. As you bask in the glorious Calabrian sun, you can admire the Castello Federiciano in the distance.
Soverato – Lido
Soverato, as always called itself the “Pearl of the Ionian Sea”, and it welcomes tourists from all over Italy each and every summer. Located in the Province of Catanzaro, this long sandy beach offers a spectacular view, especially at sunset, of the Gulf of Squillace. There is something for everyone, with its discos and various beach clubs offering up nightly entertainment for all ages.
