Last week, we looked at the Blue Flag beaches in Calabria.  This week, we are showcasing the Blue Flag beaches in Sicily.

Sicily, a large island in the Mediterranean Sea, is separated from the rest of Italy by the Strait of Messina.  Sicily has so much to offer its visitors:  from volcanoes to ancient Greek temples and captivating islands.

Here are the 2014 Blue Flag Beaches of Sicily:

AGRIGENTO

Menfi
Menfi

This small town in the Province of Agrigento has received a Blue Flag every year for the past 15 years.  It’s not a surprise; the coast is home to many widespread beautiful beaches which offer fine white sandy beaches and shallow clear refreshing water.

MESSINA

Vulcano

Lipari – Lipari, Vulcano

Vulcano is a volcanic island situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea and is one of islands that make up the Aeolian Islands.  This is the fourth consecutive year that the island has received a Blue Flag.  Here you will find the unique “Spiaggia di Sabbia Nera” or Black Sand Beach, given its name for its dark coloured volcanic sand.  The water here is always warm thanks to its underwater hot springs.

RAGUSA

Ispica

Ispica

Ispica is a seemingly untouched beauty.  The city, located on a hill, is prized for its agricultural industry but it also boasts a gorgeous coastline with golden sand and dunes.  The water is clean and usually calm, perfect for the many visitors that come to this area every summer.

Marina di Ragusa

Ragua – Marina di Ragusa

The Marina of Ragusa is located on the Mediterranean coast opposite the island of Malta.  It is a small village but is well-known for its beautiful beaches; in fact this is the sixth year that Marina di Ragusa has received a Blue Flag.  This “urban” beach brings many visitors over the summer for its golden rocky sand beaches and vibrant nightlife.

Pozzallo

 Pozzallo

Pozzallo, located on the Mediterranean coast, is a major port linking Sicily to Malta.  It also has long stretches of gorgeous golden sandy beaches, warm sky blue water and a long well-cared for boardwalk which runs along the seaside.

TRAPANI

Marsala

Marsala – Signorino

Situated in the westernmost part of Sicily, Marsala is home to the most popular beach of the area, Signorino beach.  Here you can find a long stretch of beach with crystal clear waters, soft white sand and lots of amenities which are perfect for tourists.
