Cascate del Rio Verde (Abruzzo)
The Apennine Mountains are the mountains that run almost entirely throughout the length of Italy, from Liguria all the way down to Calabria. They run through the region of Abruzzo, and it’s in this region, in the town of Borello (Chieti) where you’ll find one of Italy’s highest waterfalls called the Rio Verde waterfall. The Cascate del Rio Verde stands over 200 meters high and cascades down a cliff blanketed with green leafy bushes, trees, and plant life into the Sangro river below. The hike to the falls takes anywhere from one to two hours, depending on the path you choose, and it’s also suitable for children. Each path gives you a different experience. However, if you want to get the best view, head down to the lower observation deck. But, be warned, the path down to the bottom of the waterfall is made up of many wooden steps. But, if you take your time and admire the views along the way, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the falls.

Morigerati Oasis-Bussento Caves (Campania)
Take a trip to the enchanting caverns of Morigerati in the province of Cilento and you’ll understand why it’s called an oasis. Located in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park is a truly majestic path that transports you through the lush natural habitat of this area via paths carved into the rocks. The path leading down to the Bussento river takes you into the heart of the flora and fauna of this protected park. You’ll be taken away by all the small caverns and playful waterfalls as you make your way down to an old mill with a small pond that is fed by a lovely waterfall – a scene taken straight out of a fairy-tale storybook. The trail is said to be about 30 minutes long, but we highly suggest taking your time as not to miss out on all the intricate details of this magical place.

La Scialata (Calabria)
In the heart of the Aspromonte mountains in the Province of Reggio Calabria is a dream come true for nature lovers. La Scialata is a natural trail that leads you down into a valley towards a lovely stream. After a short and easy walk with breathtaking views of the valley, you will find yourself looking up at the “Fellare” waterfall. This is when the real magic of this place presents itself. A path cut into the rock leads you into an enchanting forest filled with small waterfalls and babbling brooks. You’ll walk across wooden bridges, and climb small ladders, bringing you deeper into the lush vegetation that calls this area home. The trail takes about two and a half hours and has a small well-equipped picnic area to give you a moment to reflect and meditate on all of the amazing natural wonders that can be found in the heart of this mountain area.
