Have you ever bought an airline ticket at what you thought was a decent rate, only to hear the price later dropped? Probably not, huh? You know why? Because most people, once they purchase their tickets, NEVER check back!
Did you know if the ticket price drops after your purchase you have options? You can call the airline and politely (but firmly) discuss the situation. Most of the time they will refund you the difference or issue you vouchers for future flights.
It gets better! There is now a website that will check your flight price FOR you, and email you if it changes. Yapta can track flights either before or after your purchase so you can always get the best price – or a refund – on your flights. They also have a nifty tool you can download to track your favorite routes before you buy!
Happy Traveling!
Oh, this is good to know. My brother and his girlfriend (in April) purchased tickets to come here in December. My guess is that the prices would go higher the closer it gets to their departure date… but it’s always good to have this information, just in case! Thanks!
Well I can tell you that Alitalia doesn’t do this. We purchased our tickets in January for our trip this past July and they were $1440, in March they dropped to $1000 and when I called for a refund or voucher they told me they do not do this so too bad. Pretty rotten if you ask me…will not fly them again.
G – hope your brother isn’t flying Alitalia…see Maria’s comment. If so, I would ask to speak to a manager and be as persistant as possible before accepting “no” as the final answer.
Maria! 🙁 Why am I not surprised that Alitalia doesn’t do this?? They have gotten so outrageously expensive. For my next trip, I checked with them and they were about $600 MORE than Lufthansa! No wonder they are (always) having trouble.
Good tip Cherrye, I’ll bookmark it in my travel folder. I never check to see if the price drops. I always thought buying your ticket was sort of like gambling
Hey girl….Love the blog! This latest tidbit is good stuff too. I liked your blog from mine so Grandmother and PawPaw can check us both out together.
We love seeing all your great adventures abroad.
Keep up all the good work.
HUGS!!
Hey J! I did, too, actually! I am working on a new project about budget travel so I passing on some of my new reseach to you guys. Good to know, huh?? Unless, I suppose, you are flying Alitalia!
Brandi!! Hey there! How are you? Thanks for linking to me. How is everyone? I bet Maddie is getting so big. I hope to see you soon. Ciao Bella!!
Oh, this is really good to know! Thanks for the tip. I’ve always wondered about this.
There is another great site out there that you might not be aware of called Airfarewatchdog.com.
These guys search thousands of fares by hand every day to come up with the best possible deals. They cover all of the discount carriers as well as specials listed only on airline websites. Plus you can sign up for a daily newsletter which let’s you know about the best fares from your city.
Worth checking out…
