This unique yoga and wine tour is the perfect marriage of Calabria’s most cherished tenets – that life should be relaxing (ciao ciao – yoga!) and enjoyable (helllllo – food and wine!).

Each day, you’ll wake to morning yoga, learning and perfecting new poses that will progressively build to help you strengthen and deepen your practice. During the days, you will dine on local Calabrese dishes, enjoy two exclusive hands-on cooking classes and learn about some of Calabria’s ancient food and cultural traditions. You’ll have time in the evenings to enjoy the agriturismo’s grounds, swim in the pool, relax with an evening glass of wine or walk into the nearby village.

Yoga and Wine Tour Itinerary

This 8-day Yoga and Wine Tour offers travelers a chance to relax in a rural farmhouse setting, while enjoying a daily yoga practice, delicious, fresh food and robust wine.

Day 1:

Benvenuti in Calabria

You’ll arrive in Lamezia Terme Airport by 4:00pm and be met by Donna, your yoga instructor for the week and Cherrye, your bilingual travel host – both who will accompany you throughout the tour. You’ll transfer to lovely Belvedere Marittimo in the province of Cosenza, where you’ll settle into your agriturismo farm house stay. There, our friend, Anna, will welcome you to her farm house with a drink and you’ll have a chance to explore the massive grounds, complete with fruit trees, a swimming pool, vegetable gardens and live animals. You’ll have an optional evening relaxation practice followed by a multi-course welcome dinner, complete with wine and homemade digestive liquors. Overnight in Belvedere Marittimo.

Day 2:

Diamonds and Murals

You’ll wake up slowly and enjoy your morning yoga practice, then will have a homemade breakfast of Italian cakes, jams, pastries and more before heading out for a day on la Riviera dei Cedri. Your first stop is Diamante – the “diamond” of Calabria, where you’ll walk through the winding streets that are covered with hand-painted murals. You’ll have a chance to shop for local products and handmade items and will have a seafood lunch overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Time-permitting, you will visit other small coastal towns along the Citron Coast. In the evening you’ll return to the agriturismo for a multi-course dinner, with wine. Overnight in Belvedere Marittimo.

Day 3:

Prehistoric Picnic

You’ll enjoy your morning yoga practice before breakfast, then you’ll head into the mountains for a visit to the Grotta del Romito, a prehistoric cave that dates back 20,000 years! After a short, easy walk through the woods, you’ll reach the cave, complete with stalagmite and stalactite formations and you’ll visit the small, interesting museum. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch al fresco, complete with local wine, homemade Calabrian specialties, breads and cheeses, then you’ll head back to Belvedere. You’ll have a chance to relax in the evening at the pool or you can walk through the agriturismo’s farm. Dinner with wine and overnight in Belvedere Marittimo.

Day 4:

La Cucina Calabrese

After your morning yoga practice and breakfast, you’ll push up your sleeves for a hands-on cooking class at the agriturismo. You’ll make handmade pasta and will learn (some of) the secrets of Calabrian cuisine! After you feast on your creations, you’ll have time to rest, visit the pool or relax in your room. In the evening, you’ll head to the historical center of Belvedere for an evening passeggiata. Dinner with wine and overnight in Belvedere Marittimo.

Day 5:

Citron Specialties on the Coast

You’ll have your morning yoga practice and breakfast and then will head into the nearby hills to explore the cedro, the famous citron fruit that grows on this part of the coast. Known for its large size and intense fragrance, the fruit shines in local specialties where it adds its citrus flavor to pasta dishes, liquors and desserts. After a visit to the museum, you’ll have lunch and can explore the small town. In the afternoon, (weather-permitting), you’ll enjoy a boat ride through the arc in San Nicola. Return to agriturismo. Dinner with wine and overnight in Belvedere Marittimo.

Day 6:

Cooking in Calabria (2!)

After your morning yoga practice and breakfast; you’ll head inland where you’ll meet a local family at their farm for a hands-on cooking class. You’ll learn to make a variety of antipasti, such as polpette di melanzane, fried zucchini, rice balls and more. After lunch, you’ll enjoy a leisurely walk down a long winding, dirt road. In the evening, you’ll return to the agriturismo. Dinner and overnight in Belvedere Marittimo.

Day 7:

Beautiful at the Beach

You’ll have your morning yoga practice and breakfast, then you’ll set out for a day on the beaches. You’ll have time on your own to relax on the beach and swim in Tyrrhenian Sea. Yoga and Wine Tour

What type of traveler would most enjoy this tour?

The tour caters to English-speaking travelers who enjoy unique opportunities and one-of-a-kind experiences. This is not a flag-following tour, but rather an opportunity for travelers to immerse themselves in authentic Italy. Most of the events in our itinerary are exclusive to our tour, meaning you won’t find them anywhere else online. In fact, many of these activities are so exclusive that we can’t even offer them to our private clients or guarantee they’ll be included in future tours.

I’m a beginning yoga student – can I still attend?

Of course! The yoga and wine tour is designed for students of all levels. If you have specific questions or concerns, just let me know and I’ll put you in touch with the instructor directly.

How many people can join the tour?

Besides the fact that we believe the most memorable travel experiences happen in small groups, our hotels, restaurants, chefs, cooks and guides are either part of a family-run business, an independent provider … or someone’s mamma, all of which cater specifically to small groups.

The Small Group Heritage Tour of Calabria is limited to a maximum of 11 travelers, while the Yoga and Wine tour can host 12.

What’s so great about Calabrian cuisine?

Calabrian cooking is loved throughout Italy and is gaining in popularity abroad. However, when you really examine Calabrian cuisine, you’ll see that it is as diverse as the region from which it hails. Although strong wine, homemade bread, fresh pasta, seasonal fruits and vegetables and the famous peperoncino are seen throughout the region, each area has its specialty. It is the unique ingredients and traditional dishes that we explore in our tours.

What happens if I can’t make the group transfer to the first hotel?

We hope everyone can make it to the airport in time for the group transfer to our first hotel. However, if you can’t, we will help you arrange a private transfer so you can catch up with the group. Additional fees apply.

How do I reserve my spot?

To reserve your spot, email Cherrye at We’ll send you a registration form and a copy of our terms and conditions. Your reservation will be confirmed when we receive your deposit.

How do I make a payment?

Payments are made in US dollars to My Bella Vita Travel, LLC. We accept all major credit cards and US checks and are happy to set up an installment plan for you.

Detailed information and a payment schedule will be sent with your registration form.

What if I want to extend my vacation?

If you want to extend your vacation, you are in luck. We design custom vacations and private tours and are happy to assist you in adding days either before or after any of our group tours. Additional fees apply.

I’d love to do the tour, but I’m unavailable for your published dates. Do you anticipate adding new dates this year?

We are open to adding new dates or even helping groups who contact us find a mutually-agreed upon date that works for everyone. If you have a group of six or more, we can do the Small Group Heritage Tour of Calabria as a private tour – exclusive for your group. If you have a group of 10 or more we can do the Yoga and Wine Tour for your private group. Contact us for details and availability.

Do you book flights?

I don’t – but I can either coordinate with your travel agent, recommend an agent to you for group travel or tell you about the airlines I personally choose when I’m traveling.
