Some of the best moments in travel—and in life—aren’t planned.
More than a decade ago, after a wine-filled picnic, one of our drivers overheard guests fondly reminiscing about their grandmother who worked with silk. On a whim, he asked if we wanted to make a detour to a village called San Floro.
Cherrye wasn’t sure what to expect, but the guests were up for an adventure, so off we went.
As we pulled into the tranquil village, Cherrye looked up the road and saw a woman bopping along in a little hat, full of energy and joy. That woman was Miriam – and that moment changed everything.
Miriam would go on to work with My Bella Vita Travel for five years, becoming a beloved part of our team (and My Bella Vita Travel family!) before dedicating herself full-time to the silk cooperative—and later, to motherhood.
It was one of those unexpected turns that led us exactly where we were meant to be.
When you think of Calabria, you likely picture its stunning coastlines and sun-drenched hills. But tucked away in a village called San Floro is a place where a centuries-old tradition of silk-making is being lovingly revived — Nido di Seta.
In 2014, a group of young Calabrians made a bold decision: instead of leaving to chase opportunities elsewhere, they chose to return to their roots. The dream? To breathe new life into the centuries-old tradition of silkworm breeding and create a sustainable, eco-friendly business that would also boost the local economy. The result? A beautiful blend of heritage, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking innovation that’s turning heads both locally and internationally.
What makes Nido di Seta special? Beyond their beautiful silk, it’s their philosophy: protecting the environment, supporting local growth, and sharing Calabrian craftsmanship with the world. They’ve trained with masters in Calabria, Thailand, India, and Mexico, and partnered with silk associations across Europe.
More than just a farm, Nido di Seta has become a cultural hub, offering visitors a chance to experience Calabrian craftsmanship, art, and food. It’s a place where locals and tourists come together, share stories, and connect with this sustainable, vibrant community.
We’ve known the team behind Nido di Seta for years, and their passion is truly contagious and we couldn’t be more proud of them and their ever-growing success!
